The contest is named in honor of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who made significant contributions to India's aerospace industry. The competition is designed to provide a platform for students, educators, and professionals from various fields to support his vision. Grayspace Academy, in partnership with industry and academia, continues to host this prestigious event annually.
The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Air and Space Law and Policy Essay Competition started in 2020. It offers experienced practitioners and students the opportunity to explore the legal and policy challenges and opportunities of aviation, space, and general transport sectors. These essays provide a thorough examination of issues that are relevant to international and regional organizations, civil aviation professionals, international and national space agencies, private operators, investors, insurers, and aviation and space consultancies.
The goal of the essay competition is to develop a strong policy and legal framework that supports the aviation, space, and general transport sectors. This framework should be useful and relevant to academia, government, and the private sector. The global competition is open to students, academics, and practitioners. Each year, the top three essay winners together receive cash prizes totaling USD 1500.
